William Hague

Biography

William Hague, the Baron Hague of Richmond is a storied politician with an impactful career including time as the First Secretary of State, Foreign Secretary, Leader of the Opposition, Leader of the House of Commons, Leader of the Conservative Party, Secretary of State for Wales, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Social Security and Minister of State.

He came to political prominence at the age of 16 when he addressed the 1977 Conservative Party Conference, warning of the dangers of Labour staying in power. He went on to lead the Oxford University Conservative Association (OUCA) before emerging on the national scene.

His success as a political voice and keynote speaker might be attributed to his skill in debates which was widely commended during his regular performances in Prime Minister’s Questions.

Today, Baron Hague works earnestly to fight the illegal wildlife trade globally and is the chairman of the Royal Foundation for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge with their work in support of conservation, emergency response, early life, mental health and other key causes.
