Biography

In a volatile world of rapidly changing events, the role of Bronwen Maddox as Director of Chatham House has rarely been more important.

Bronwen’s expert stewardship of the hugely respected think-tank helps those in power make better choices about issues including climate change, economics, technology, and global security. She commands great influence and brings together experts, politicians, and business leaders to discuss solutions to pressing global issues.

Before becoming the Chief Executive we know today Bronwen cut her teeth in finance. She specialised in media stocks, sharpening her eye for both the business of storytelling and the power of communication.

But after years in the City, she made a bold switch: trading spreadsheets for bylines. She became an investigative reporter for the FT in 1991 and was later promoted to leader writer. Five years later she joined the Times, where she was initially the US Editor and Washington Bureau Chief, before becoming the Foreign Editor.

At Chatham House, Bronwen now unpicks complex issues on global governance and international order and brings new perspectives on issues occupying many political minds such as the Middle East, Iran and Ukraine.
