Joe Tidy cyber security keynote speaker

Joe Tidy is a journalist, author, and podcaster. He is the BBC’s first-ever Cyber Correspondent and the foremost voice within the corporation on cybercrime and hacking.

Over the past ten years, Joe has covered all major cyber-attacks for BBC TV, radio, social media, and online platforms, having previously reported for Sky News.

He has produced documentaries on cybersecurity around the world, travelling to the USA, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Germany, Romania, and Ukraine to uncover stories and key figures in the cybercrime world.

Joe’s most high-profile investigation saw him travel to Russia in November 2021 in search of one of the world’s most wanted cybercriminals. This feature was read by over one million people, viewed more than 2.4 million times across social media, and translated into 30 languages across the BBC network.

His top six BBC News documentaries have generated more than 30 million views, including:

• 10 million views for his video on the dangers of AI
• 2.2 million for The Teenage Millionaire Hacker
• 1.4 million for The Russian Hackers

He also hosted the popular Cyber Hack: Evil Corp series.

An experienced broadcaster, Joe has presented The Media Show on BBC Radio 4 and Tech Tent on the BBC World Service.

Before joining the BBC, Joe worked as a correspondent at Sky News, where he regularly reported on technology. His decade-long focus on cybercrime began after covering the infamous 2014 Christmas Day Lizard Squad attack.

Joe is the author of Ctrl+Alt+Chaos: How Teenage Hackers Hijack, which explores the rise of teenage hacker gangs and tells the shocking story of Julius Kivimaki, who went from gaming enthusiast to one of the world’s most wanted cybercriminals.

Testimonials

Joe Tidy has been a trusted sports presenter with Dream Team Television for eight years, covering large scale sports events for Channel 4, Sky and other major TV networks around the world. Working in an unpredictable sport environment, he is equally strong presenting with a script or in a pressured situation where he needs to quickly come up with his own words. A dedicated team-player, Joe is used to early starts and pushing through to late in the evening if necessary. He comes well-prepared and researched to all events and is a sympathetic, perceptive interviewer with a warm and easy-going on-screen style.

Many thanks to Joe for providing such an insightful and brilliantly delivered presentation to the ISBA members this morning.

He was great! I know he’s a journalist and it comes with the territory but he had clearly done so much prep work and research and considered the audience so well.
