Markus Rehm
Markus Rehm has been the world’s best Paralympic long jumper for over a decade and one of the most recognizable faces in Paralympic sport. Despite losing his right lower leg in a wakeboarding accident at the age of just 14, Rehm turned his focus to his true passion: athletics. With five Paralympic gold medals and seven consecutive world championship titles, he has been unbeaten for over 14 years. In 2023, Rehm secured his 14th world record with a jump of 8.72 m – a distance that has not been surpassed even by Olympic athletes since 2009.
Despite the growing importance of Paralympic sport, Markus is committed to inclusion and fights for Paralympic athletes to have the opportunity to compete against Olympic athletes. His achievements are redefining the boundaries of Paralympic sport and inspiring not only people with disabilities but also the wider society.
In addition to sport, Rehm also contributes to innovation in the field of prosthetics. As a master of orthopedic technology, he and his team developed the first prosthesis specifically for long jumping. In addition to developing new components, he continues to work on the one important goal: helping people get back on their feet.
