Jo Malone
Jo Malone is a global success story with a beauty brand loved by millions.
Her inspirational approach to business revolutionised the way we think about fragrance and the original Jo Malone brand was snapped up by cosmetic giant Estée Lauder.
As a keynote speaker there are few businesswomen better placed to talk about overcoming challenges in a furiously competitive industry.
Jo is the founder of two fragrance brands – Jo Malone London and Jo Loves – and has been associated with perfume for decades.
Her boutiques are a familiar sight on the high street and a firm favourite in stores such as Harrods and Selfridges.
From modest beginnings as a teenager when she struggled with dyslexia, Jo left school with no qualifications. It was her talent for pioneering innovation and originality that helped her stand out from the crowd.
Nothing dampens Jo’s entrepreneurial spirit, even during the most difficult times in life. At one point Jo was told she only had nine months to live. But she overcame breast cancer and speaks about the experience with an unflustered air.
“I’m not a trend follower. That’s not what my business is about,” Malone told CEO magazine.
“I’m much more about sourcing unique ingredients that others will then find, which I’ve done many times.
“What I’m delivering to the consumer are true stories of my life, but instead of a book or a piece of music, they are fragrances.
“So I’m no different to Adele writing a song, but you can hear her creativity, you can smell mine. So that is how I am approaching it,” she added.
Jo Malone is perhaps the definition of business resilience, innovation and creativity – and no matter what life throws at you, never give up.
