Ayo Sokale – civil engineer – bbc presenter – politician

With three keynote speaking engagements for International Women’s Day and an expanding portfolio of work with TV producers – Ayo Sokale is a rising star in the world of Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Her talents and expertise, place her at the cutting edge of the evolving scientific, media and environmental landscape.

Environmental injustice and intersectionality are also areas of expertise for her as a keynote speaker

Ayo works as a Chartered Civil Engineer, Project Manager and Building Information lead for the Environment Agency in Eastern England.  She has been a Site Supervisor for West Berkshire Council and a Seconded Graduate Civil Engineer for Jacobs. During her career, Ayo has worked on major projects such as the Thames Estuary Asset Management, fish migration at Tumbling Bay, flood embankment at Mortimer and the Abingdon Flood Alleviation Scheme. Her talents as a civil engineer have seen Ayo nominated as one of the Top 50 Women in Engineering Under 35. She was selected as one of Professor Lord Robert Mair’s Future Leaders for his year as President of the Institute of Civil Engineering – ICE. She is one of the ICE’s Water Superheroes aptly named Eco Warrior (previously Angel). She is also a STEM ambassador and mentor encouraging others to take up careers in Civil Engineering.

Ayo’s background and expertise have attracted a large number of inquiries from companies and other organisations wanting to share her expertise and experiences with employees and others as an inspirational and motivational speaker and role model – especially for International Women’s Day. As efforts increase to improve opportunities for women in the STEM subjects, many have already drawn inspiration from the keynote speaker work Ayo has been doing at schools and other institutions.

She has also been a Presenter for a number of ICE programmes and forthcoming projects include Secret Cities with Big Bang and Great Inventions with Off the Fence.

Ayo has a fascinating and enriching hinterland. She loves the performing arts, fitness and has a passion for supporting great causes. She has raised funds for a number of charities, using her platform as a beauty queen and finalist for Miss Galaxy England, Miss Earth and Miss Great Britain.

Ayo is a Labour Councillor for Caversham in Reading Borough Council. As the UK looks for leaders to combat the challenges of climate change and sustainability, we expect you’ll be hearing more about Ayo as the years go by.
