“At the top of his game” and “one of the quickest, most stimulating stand-ups in the land” is how the Guardian and the Times have described the indomitable, quickfire comedian Russell Kane – an outstanding After Dinner Speaker, Awards and Event Host.
Born in Enfield in North London in 1975, he now hails from Southend in Essex and he’s very much an Essex lad, with his cheeky, salty patter poking fun at sometimes risque subjects like British unfriendliness abroad or the British attitude to sex education.
Russell is best known as the presenter of three series of Live At the Electric (BBC3) as well as numerous appearances on Live At The Apollo (BBC1), Celebrity Juice and I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here Now (both on ITV2.)
A measure of his popularity with both critics and audiences comes with his hugely in-demand shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where he was nominated for an Edinburgh Comedy Award three times in a row between 2006 and 2009, before finally claiming the coveted £10,000 prize in 2010. An achievement which he said left him “utterly humbled.”
That same year in Australia he also won the prestigious Melbourne Comedy Festival Barry Award – the first comedian to hold both at the same time.
But there are many sides to this master of the stand-up art. He won a charity edition of Celebrity Mastermind using the novels of the English satirist Evelyn Waugh as his specialist subject. His own darkly comic first novel The Humorist was nominated for a literary prize. He performed his show Smokescreens and Castles, inspired by his relationship with his Dad and the consequences of owning their own council house, in the main house of the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford. He’s also written, directed and starred in three plays, one of which was staged at the RSC’s Courtyard Theatre in Stratford.
Russell Kane is a sell-out performer around the globe. As a keynote speaker, event host or guest comedian, he would be the perfect choice for your event.
